I started this morning and spent my entire day playing. Incredible, I'm very glad I randomly decided to play this during October because it fit perfectly. I'm quite unsettled. This game is great
Thank you for this awesome game! Filling out the timeline piece by piece was such a satisfying experience. Figuring out bu bar-FG-gjryir made me feel like a genius.
I got briefly stuck on something another user in these comments also did; I think having guvegrra-GB-sbhe-fvk pbhag nf n ersrerapr sbe gjryir-GB-fvk would've been fair? But that was also just my personal carelessness in notetaking. ^^'
I LOVE this game so far! The story and puzzles are incredibly clever and engaging. Unfortunately I think I'm missing something extremely obvious and I'm having trouble figuring out what I'm supposed to do next. I tried the walkthrough guide, but all it said was:
• The inbox brief recommended that you search for a few files by name. • 01-QU-1-11
I'm missing a few files that I know exist, but at this point I'm attempting to brute-force the puzzle. I know, roughly, where a few people were or what areas I might be able to find them in, but because I don’t know who else might’ve been with them at the time any attempt at typing the XX-XX-XX sequence ends with “file not found.” As for the walkthrough clue, I don't know what I'm supposed to be searching for. Any help is appreciated!
I struggled with this for a hot minute! The 03 file is a big help for this as it tells us at the end of the scene where some characters are going as well as how to name characters
I found naming the characters helped with organisation and then i could work out which characters would be in the 04 file as (spoiler) the letter at the start of each file matches locations
It did a little, I was able to find a file I'd been missing! But unfortunately I'm now stuck a little ways past that. I currently have three of the 07 files, two of the 08 files, one 09, and one 10. There's one location in particular I'm trying to find, (SPOILERS) specifically the room with the piano and the location of where Person 3 went during dinner. It's difficult to ask for specifics when I'm trying to figure it out on my own, but I've tried inputting the combinations that seem like they should work and I'm not getting anywhere.
Oh, I see! Thank you so, SO much!! I knew I was missing something in the dinner scene, but I think I was overthinking it lol. As for the walkthrough, i didn't realize I had to post ALL the scenes. I thought it was just the ones that were the most recently found. Thank you so much for the help!
1) The guide requires the list of all the scenes you have, as the game is not exactly linear.
2) Don't try to discover scenes in order. There's an 01 scene referenced in the middle of Terror, and an 02 scene the hint to which is placed all the way in The Reckoning.
Maybe this would have made things too easy, but I kept hoping I'd come across a command like "LABEL [filename] <text>" so that I could include my file synopses inside the game itself. Then again—I still would have needed my external notes for my character-specific timelines, so it's not like it would have saved me any effort. Phenomenal game, regardless!
Is there a way to reorganize my notes (other than deleting everything, inserting a note and then re-adding the deleted notes)? Not really a big deal or anything, but I think it would be nice (especially when I discover a name number combination and/or discover a full name. Then I would like to have them in numerical order lol).
So, the first major puzzle of the game is slowing down enough to recognize what the formatting of the files is. I can't really hint at it further than to say pull apart the 3 elements and work out what each one is. This is the first puzzle of the game, and is more or less the core puzzle throughline that continues throughout the rest of the game. Last chance to go back and take another stab at it before I spell it out, as I wish fervently that itch comments had simple spoilers:
The first part is a timestamp. all 01 events happen before 02, which come before 03, etc.
The second part is a location. Person 11 points Person 1 to the entrance. ENtrance. EN is the file code for an event happening at the entrance. Person 1 got stuck on QUail Lane, QU.
The third part is a chain of numbers. Look at the interactions within each file, and you might notice some things: Each speaker is assigned a number. Each number in the file name corresponds to a speaker. The chain of numbers is the list of people that were at that location at that time code. Persons 1 and 11 were at quail lane at time code 01, Persons 1, 6, 7, and 10 were at the entrance at time code 02.
Now, to put it together. You are given 04-ST-????. You now know it's asking you to work out who was in the ST room at time code 04. You can work that out by reading through the events you have at time code 03. Near the end of it, one of the people invites two others to join them in a place.
This was a really good game. The pacing of the puzzle discovery was amazing. Just as soon as me and my friend figured out one piece of the puzzle or just about to get a piece of paper to make notes about people's names or label stuff, the new commands were shared with us. And moving from figuring out which files we're missing to figuring out the greater mystery was really fun. We are going to try out the other games that were inspirations and are really looking forward to the remaster on steam.
Toward the end, we were crying so also a very tragic story that we uncovered. Thanks for making this!
For those who have beaten Type Help and would like to re-explore or reexamine the entire game, I've made a video essay doing so. I hope there's something inside of it that can increase your appreciation for this amazing game!
Reading all the encoded comments makes me feel like I’m part of a secret society, incredible.
I loved the game: it has a simple but effective game play, a well thought out story structure with just enough twists, and at times it was genuinely spooky!

That said, I still think this is a fantastic game, well worth the time!
My notes were long though, probably the most notes I’ve taken in a game aside from Obra Dinn. :)
I'm pretty sure the guide needs every file you have, not just the most recent ones! Otherwise it just presumes you haven't done pretty much anything ( including opening the inbox), I used it when I had like two files missing and it was such a chore to copy-paste everything lol
But! The first scene you mentioned might be very helpful for where you're at if i remember correctly :)

Now to get my friends into this...

> (SPOILERS)
Those questions can be answered by reading part 2 and part 3 of the dinner, respectively.

If there was a way to reorganize notes I think the dev would've told us in the game.
On the same note, I wish there was a way to edit notes because re-writing notes again and again is driving me crazy.
you could drag the same note to the input box, that's what I do at least
I love this game so much and I love the scenes where nothings happening like O.B.A.G. is eating chips or E.D. is sleeping
Amazing game! Analog horror vibes!
so I just started and I've spent hours and still cant figure out 4-ST-???? can I get some help?
